About

We are a family business established in Oxford in 1976.  We have worked on both large and small civil engineering projects all over the UK.  Our expertise lies in the completion of highways maintenance and civil engineering schemes in Oxfordshire, where we have many years experience.  Schemes include surfacing works, drainage works and kerbing.  We currently work with Oxfordshire County Council and Oxford City Council,  and have worked for many of the large multi-national contractors on local schemes.  We have established numerous strong contacts within the local authorities and with local contractors who continue to come back to us year after year for repeat work.

Health & Safety

The ODBS Health & Safety Policy is communicated to staff at induction, through notice boards on the company premises and individual sites, through toolbox talks and training sessions, also through site specific risk assessments and method statements.

Training

All our operatives have achieved either operative or supervisor accreditation under the New Roads & Street Works Act (NRSWA).  Our plant operators are certified by NPORS (National Plant Operators  Registration Scheme).  Staff are trained according to their role as defined by the Company skills matrix outlining the training required for each role.

Environmental Management

The ODBS Environmental Policy is communicated to all staff, the key elements we strive to achieve are

  • Carbon Reduction – for example journey planning to reduce number of vehicle movements
  • Waste reduction and reuse plan – Recycling topsoil and excavated material where at all possible
  • Use of recycled material from our aggregate suppliers where client specification allows
  • Sourcing labour, plant and materials locally

Supporting Local Communities and Charities

We actively support local communities and charities, the following are recent examples:

Risinghurst Cricket Club

We are a small community based cricket club situated on the outskirts of Headington in Oxford. The club was founded on the basis of making new friends, encouraging young talent, having fun and bringing the community together. Following on from promotions for both the 1st and 2nd teams in 2013 we’re already gearing up for a new challenge in 2014. Thanks to the generosity of our donors we have been able to provide the teams with access to indoor nets, update the club kit with much needed equipment and continue to keep our pitch in excellent shape. Without such generous people out there clubs like ours would not be able to survive so a hearty thank you goes out from every single person involved with the club. We’ll try and do you proud and bring back yet more trophies this season. From Emrys Hughes

John Watson School, Oxford

‘I am writing to say a big thank you for the free tickets you sent for this year’s Circus Starr performance at South Park.  The students said it was an “amazing” show and they loved the acrobats. This was a fabulous opportunity for our families to come together and share a wonderful experience…thank you once again for your kindness which we hope you will pass onto the businesses who donated tickets for us’.  From Lyn Wyatt (School Administrator)
